SL Game Two

Suns' draft stars come up short
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/0711suns0712.html

Overall, I'm happy with the game. The Suns' starters outplayed the 76ers' starters, including 4 that will probably make the regular-season roster. 76ers built a big lead when Alando, DJ and George were out. But once they came back in, it was a different story - the defensive pressure and basketball smarts of DJ and Alando made a huge difference.

Alando Tucker - Alando outside shot is looking real good. Real smooth and no hesitation, though his range out to 3 might be a bit shaky, that just needs more practice in the gym with Webber. He's got handles to go at his man, but doesn't seem to have the skills to really shake his man and get open for his own shot. He may never be a legit 3pt shooter, but more of that long 2 type, but he seems comfortable from the corner. Overall, I'd say he looked pretty good and seemed to be more comfortable than his 1st game. He really reminds me of the Battier type.

DJ Strawberry - He's doing a good job at the point. He's advancing the ball up the floor quickly with the basic fast break, get the ball up the sideline routine. I don't think DJ's handles are too bad, but definitely need some more polish. He dribbles a bit high but seems to have good control of the ball on the straight line. He seems to be a good decision maker in the open court, making some nice passes. He looks like he knows how to run a fast break and I really like the ball movements him and Alando create. That's more like Phoenix basketball (not Banks basketball...) More importantly, dude plays defense the right way, like Raja with a long arm and freakish athleticism. He have to make this team. Great combination of speed, strength, determination, athleticism, defensive technique, and even better than average handles, passing, and court vision for a SG. What he needs now is to hit the corner three, the easiest three on the court, to keep other teams defense honest while he is on the court. If he is signed, I really think he may have a better chance of playing than Alando.

DJ is definitely getting signed. I think we improved our overall team speed and defense with those two. They'll make mistakes now and then, but they'll be playing hard and fast and giving their 120%.

Terrell Everett - Terrell Everett is starting at PG. The ball movement is very good, as all 5 guys are touching the ball. He is starting to grow on. I was impressed last game and he's not disappointing this game. He just keeps the ball moving, knows how to play the point, but isn't an offensive threat yet. He won't make the team. Moving on...

Melvin Sanders - He looked good today. His midrange game seems real nice, he hit a 3 before IINM and had a nice lay-in down the middle on a cut after getting the dish from Sow. Also playing some good defense and he's built solidly like Raja at 6-5 210.

Otis George - Not completely sold on George just yet, but that college 3 is just about automatic. Hes active and knows how to play. He reminds me of James Jones type of corer. 6'9 that can shoot the long ball. He's nice, but I don't think he'll make the team.

Eric Williams - An energy guy. He made some nice heads up basketball plays and moved very well up and down the court given his size. He played great pick and roll defense also. I think he is more athletic than he looks, definitely needs to lose some weight if he wants to make this team, which I doubt he will. I like what I saw from him though.

Amundson - Ugh, hate his hair, reminds me of Mike Miller Anyway, I don't undertsand why he can't stick with a team. He was killing with the Kings SL last year as a rook, bounced around, and is now back in the SL with Philly. He is a ball of energy with hops and a nose for rebounding the ball. A David Lee type with better athleticism.

Michael Bradley - I'm ashamed of myself thinking he has an odd chance of making the team. From what I saw today, and the last game, he doesn't even deserved to be on a SL team roster. He is a stiff. He makes L** L***** look like a HOF. He has a nice mid-range tho.

Pape Sow - He looks better than he was last game. He's still very raw and not much of an athlete getting up and down the floor. He takes the shot for the win...and bricks it. Why him? Oh well.
