Nash Wanted for Team Canada
Even a little bit of Nash 'worth it'
That said, Nash had carried the national program (a program that other NBA players wouldn't give it a sniff) for MANY years busting his butt at stupid qualifying tourneys all over the world and gave up many many summers to it above and beyond the call. He carried the program for years, unlike the selfish Rick Fox and Magloire, who's been a no show (not even once) in all these years.
I'd say, for a job well done, whatever his decision is, no one can question his dedication to the national team program over the years. He made a major commitment to Canada early in his career and has more than earned the right to now focus solely on winning a championship for the Phoenix Suns.
Nash's resume playing for Canada looks something like this:
'93 World University Games - played (for Dave Nutbrown)
"Okay Steve, we're going to feed the big man, and make good solid fundamental passes".
Nash has paid his dues to the national team. If there is such a thing as retiring a national player's number, Nash would deserve it. The guy is 30 something years old now so yes, he shouldn't play since his career is more important. But the guy has done so much for Canadian basketball already. i remember in this interview that described how when Nash goes on trips with the national team, he would just chill with the boys and pull out his guitar and jam with the team; no ego or anything. The guy is a class act.
NBA IN A FIX
Donaghy under investigation for betting on NBA games
As a NBA fan, FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! This is the best thing that could have happened to the league. Next year questionable calls will be halted, and in general, whats been destroying the game, the constant parade to the free-throw line, will stop. It's to easy to fix a game at the line, and the best way to minimize it, is to go back to the old rules, wich everyone loved anyway.
Stern will fired, and I hope, no PRAY that the NBA comes to the brink of collapse, only to be pulled back with a new commish, and getting rid of what has ruined the game, and the ratings, zone defense, and the hand check call, along with the passion. Allow tons of contact, and fighting, as the game USED TO BE PLAYED FOR 30YEARS.
Best thing to happen to the NBA in just about forever.
This might seem a bit premature until all the facts are out or a bit dark, but I love that 10 years from now, people won't be talking about the Spurs championship per se, they'll be talking about the crooked Reffing and the league shortsightedness that didn't cost the Suns a championship so much as it cost them a legitimate shot at a championship. Its like, yeah the Spurs won but, geez, look at the circumstances. Even with the crooked reffing, The Suns and Spurs were tied at 2-2, man, who knows who would have really won the GD thing?
Kurt Thomas traded to Seattle
It's really not that suprising a move tho...
We've been told numerous times that $arver is trying to cut about $8 million payroll (even after the James Jones trade), it's been written on the wall for a while. This deal did just that. KT's salary was nowhere near being in line with the role he played on the team - if he made $3-$4 million rather than $8 million that might be a different story. $8 million to sit on the bench as our 7th/8th man just wasn't being cost effective (KT played only 18mpg and had like about 20 DNP's). Unless they we're planning on using him, it was just a player not being utilized correctly. Just like, well, Marcus Banks. Personally, I liked the Suns the way they played, especially on the defensive end, when KT was in the game. I guess coach didn't and he knows more about hoops than I ever will. I'd rather they take that money and bring in somebody they're going to play a bit more.
No Petro, 2 1st rounders, and they don't take Banks. Thank you Mr. Kerr. I'm sorry, not buying the 'wait and see' thing. We just cut $8 million off the payroll using 2 1st round draft picks, you think they're going to add on more salary????? I expect nothing more than some minimum contracts. I just don't have any reason to 'wait and see'
SL Game Two
Suns' draft stars come up short
Overall, I'm happy with the game. The Suns' starters outplayed the 76ers' starters, including 4 that will probably make the regular-season roster. 76ers built a big lead when Alando, DJ and George were out. But once they came back in, it was a different story - the defensive pressure and basketball smarts of DJ and Alando made a huge difference.
Alando Tucker - Alando outside shot is looking real good. Real smooth and no hesitation, though his range out to 3 might be a bit shaky, that just needs more practice in the gym with Webber. He's got handles to go at his man, but doesn't seem to have the skills to really shake his man and get open for his own shot. He may never be a legit 3pt shooter, but more of that long 2 type, but he seems comfortable from the corner. Overall, I'd say he looked pretty good and seemed to be more comfortable than his 1st game. He really reminds me of the Battier type.
DJ Strawberry - He's doing a good job at the point. He's advancing the ball up the floor quickly with the basic fast break, get the ball up the sideline routine. I don't think DJ's handles are too bad, but definitely need some more polish. He dribbles a bit high but seems to have good control of the ball on the straight line. He seems to be a good decision maker in the open court, making some nice passes. He looks like he knows how to run a fast break and I really like the ball movements him and Alando create. That's more like Phoenix basketball (not Banks basketball...) More importantly, dude plays defense the right way, like Raja with a long arm and freakish athleticism. He have to make this team. Great combination of speed, strength, determination, athleticism, defensive technique, and even better than average handles, passing, and court vision for a SG. What he needs now is to hit the corner three, the easiest three on the court, to keep other teams defense honest while he is on the court. If he is signed, I really think he may have a better chance of playing than Alando.
DJ is definitely getting signed. I think we improved our overall team speed and defense with those two. They'll make mistakes now and then, but they'll be playing hard and fast and giving their 120%.
Terrell Everett - Terrell Everett is starting at PG. The ball movement is very good, as all 5 guys are touching the ball. He is starting to grow on. I was impressed last game and he's not disappointing this game. He just keeps the ball moving, knows how to play the point, but isn't an offensive threat yet. He won't make the team. Moving on...
Melvin Sanders - He looked good today. His midrange game seems real nice, he hit a 3 before IINM and had a nice lay-in down the middle on a cut after getting the dish from Sow. Also playing some good defense and he's built solidly like Raja at 6-5 210.
Otis George - Not completely sold on George just yet, but that college 3 is just about automatic. Hes active and knows how to play. He reminds me of James Jones type of corer. 6'9 that can shoot the long ball. He's nice, but I don't think he'll make the team.
Eric Williams - An energy guy. He made some nice heads up basketball plays and moved very well up and down the court given his size. He played great pick and roll defense also. I think he is more athletic than he looks, definitely needs to lose some weight if he wants to make this team, which I doubt he will. I like what I saw from him though.
Amundson - Ugh, hate his hair, reminds me of Mike Miller Anyway, I don't undertsand why he can't stick with a team. He was killing with the Kings SL last year as a rook, bounced around, and is now back in the SL with Philly. He is a ball of energy with hops and a nose for rebounding the ball. A David Lee type with better athleticism.
Michael Bradley - I'm ashamed of myself thinking he has an odd chance of making the team. From what I saw today, and the last game, he doesn't even deserved to be on a SL team roster. He is a stiff. He makes L** L***** look like a HOF. He has a nice mid-range tho.
Pape Sow - He looks better than he was last game. He's still very raw and not much of an athlete getting up and down the floor. He takes the shot for the win...and bricks it. Why him? Oh well.
Banks hits 42
Banks hits 42; Summer Suns fall
Let's just say, Banks isn't a TRUE PG. He doesn't have the court vision to be a good passing guard and we need to get over it.
Last season, from what we saw, Banks really doesn't seem to want to push the ball. Almost every time, he'd hold up the offense and wait for the defense to get set before starting the offense again. Last night watching him play, he was still doing that same exact stuff during the season and was successful at times. He can still break down a defense anytime he wants, get to the rim and take the hit. But I felt like he did a better job of keeping the ball moving forward when there were break opportunities. On a few plays, he ran at half speed, letting the play develop instead of just attacking the basket 1on5 or pulling it out right away and pounding the ball. His patience on the pick and roll was better as well, and helped him set up his offense.
Bottom line is that the guy isnt Stevie. Hes not a dribble around and probe type. He is what he is and we're either going to kill him for it for accept it and try to take advantage of it. The key tho is him hitting his outside jumper. Once he hit that initial jumpshot, it was obvious he was feeling confident and thats exactly what we want for him. After last season, he just needs to see the ball go into the rim, make some positive plays, and let his game come back. With Hill here, we don't really need him to handle the point duty. He can focus on what he does best - attack the rim and play tough D.
Not getting my hopes up...but at best, he can be traded...
Suspect related to Amare
Suspect related to Amare
I think Amare is gonna be a little weird. I don't think he really is a loner (Boris is more of a loner, according to :07 or less), he may just lack the social skills, or not as talkative or outgoing as others. It comes with his background and I don't doubt his ego and cockiness rubs people off the wrong way. But he's a basically good guy, and that in itself is a huge accomplishment for anyone in a situation like his.
Prove everyone out there WRONG!!
RE: Marwan. He is not being charged as the trigger man. He is being charged with being present during the murder...which still carries a 1st degree murder charge, but may be dropped to a lesser charge in a conviction or a plea deal. He also had drugs on him when he was arrested, which does not help him at all.
